A "trial of bravery" in Japanese is most commonly known as Kimodameshi, which literally translates to "test of guts". It is a popular activity where participants prove their courage by navigating through frightening or eerie locations, such as a dark path to a haunted spot, where they are often met with scares. At night, usually during the summer, a group of people visit an ominous place such as a cemetery, haunted house, or secluded forest path to carry out specific missions there. The exercise teaches the group that, working together, they can overcome their fear.
